Part 6
Meta Index/Ask Jeeves

Framed

Here is a typical page provided as an answer by Ask Jeeves:

Above the red line (1) is the frame Jeeves puts at the top. There are some helpful "commands" in this part to assist you. We'll look at these below. Below the red line (2) is the actual site. This screen shot shows a nice balance between the two, but it came from a 17" monitor at 1024x768 resolution! In smaller monitors, you see less of the bottom frame and more of the top frame.

Here is the Jeeves frame close up. The purpleish strip at the top has some navigation options to assist in your search. These are espically helpful if the page you are at does not answer your question, and you need to return to Jeeves's search results.

These three links take you away from your search results. You can use the Back button on your broswer to get back to your answers:

(1) Home - this takes you right back to the starting Ask Jeeves page
(2) About - takes you to a page telling you all about the Ask Jeeves search engine
(3) Help - takes you to a page providing assistance with using Ask Jeeves

The next links assist you with your search:

(4) Back to your Question - takes you to the search results page, to try other answers to your question
(5) Print - assists you in printing the page. All it does is open a small window telling you to remove the frames before you print
(6) Remove Frames - removes the upper frame from the web page. Use this "command" if you want to stay on the web page but don't want the Ask Jeeves frame any more
(7) More Answers - This link is a bit flaky; sometimes it doesn't work. It's suposed to take you to a page with a list of similar sites to the one you are on, to help narrow your search to pages that may be the same to the one you are browsing

(8) is an ad (which I've blurred in the graphic). Someone has to pay for Ask Jeeves, so they make their money with advertisements. This sometimes slows down the result page loading

Easy to Use!

Ask Jeeves is one of the easiest Search Engines to use. The Natural Language querry method, the variety of results, and the accuracy of "his" understanding your request make Ask Jeeves one of the top search sites available.

You can try Ask Jeeves in a Practice Search. You'll come back here when finished. If you've been following this guide in a linear fashion, you can go the the list of search sites, or else jump back to Search Directories or Search Indexes.
